GTA 6 Nabs Two More Award Wins Despite Second Delay

They likely won't be the last awards

The release saga of Grand Theft Auto VI has been a real rollercoaster for the millions of expectant fans around the world, with the most recent delay pushing the game back to November 2026 and putting a real pin into the balloon of excitement that had built up over the last year or two.

Despite the fact that we won't be able to play it in any capacity for at least another year, the game has somehow already started scooping up awards, including at the coveted Golden Joysticks.

First started all the way back in 1983, the Golden Joysticks were arguably the biggest awards ceremony in the industry, until Geoff Keighley came along with The Game Awards years later.

The 43rd Annual Edition took place in London last night, with GTA managing to grab two awards before the night was out.

GTA VI Grabs Two Golden Joystick Awards

As first reported by GTA 6 Countdown over on Twitter/X, GTA VI took home the prizes for Most Anticipated Game and Best Trailer, which in all fairness are probably totally deserved prizes at this point.

Anyone who has taken a look at either of the GTA trailers will know how hype they were, with the only caveat being that not much, if any, of what we saw was actual gameplay.

Though the jury may be still out on the final product, it's difficult to begrudge the game these two awards, with the game also surely the favourite to pick up similar prizes at The Game Awards in December.

The comments underneath the video sharing GTA's win were a very mixed bag, with many wondering how much about the game can actually be drawn from the trailer.

"The worst category in the world is stuff like this. Remember Cyberpunk got best trailer for a FMV that had nothing to do with the game. No surprises they didn't show up," one read.

Others commented on Rockstar's noticeable absence from the ceremony, with one saying: "They were right not to be there.

"You don’t turn up to accept awards for a game that hasn’t shipped yet. Classier to sit it out.

"There will be plenty more opportunities in the future, all going to plan!"

In any case, expect this to be the quietest period for GTA VI accolades for a while now.

If the game manages to live up to the ridiculous expectations of the fan base, then it should clean sweep just about every award it's eligible for.
