GTA 6 fans roast abruptly cancelled game

Maybe it's still coming, said no one

It’s State of Play day, my friends.

Tonight, Sony returns with its latest showcase, offering over 40 minutes of reveals on “must-play games coming to PS5”.

The announcement simply says that the show will highlight a “selection of great games from creators across the globe” so I’m guessing we’ll see both first and third party titles.

The event kicks off at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm BST / 11pm CEST.

As with every State of Play, fans are theorising about what they’d like to see unveiled, but they’re also reflecting on reveals of the past.

One reveal that’s engrained in many of our minds is that of Agent.

You’re going to have to cast your mind all the way back to 2009 when it was unveiled that Rockstar Games would be releasing a new IP for the PlayStation 3 titled, you guessed it, Agent.

In fact, the game was announced on 2 June so we’ve just passed its anniversary.

Agent was to be a stealth action game set during the 1970s cold war.

It had been teased for several years ahead of its eventual reveal. Admittedly, we never found that much out about Agent beyond the fact that players would participate in “counter-intelligence, espionage and political assassinations”.

As you may be guessing though based on the fact that you’ve never played this game, Agent was ultimately cancelled with the trademark for the title having been abandoned back in 2018.

What went wrong with Agent? Well, that’s hard to pin down as it’s a game shrouded in secrecy.

It’s believed that the team working on Agent was eventually drafted in to assist on GTA V instead.

Was it just that GTA V had a larger vision? Were the two games too similar in design? It’s a bit of a mystery but the bottom line is that Agent never came to be.

It’s why early reveals have been phased out of the video games industry; unfulfilled promises aren’t something fans are going to let devs forget.

So much so that Agent is still being roasted to this day.

“It was never officially cancelled, it’s still coming guys,” joked SoundwaveXP.

“Wonder when it’s coming out. It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything,” added a sarcastic JDCruz1025.

“They’ll finally unveil it at Summer Game Fest,” replied Literalthrowaw5.

Haha, very funny guys. Rockstar would never revive the idea … would they? Maybe we should clown.
