GTA VI could be censored to cater to modern audiences, suggests a popular actor from GTA V.
One franchise in particular that never shied away from such topics is Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto series, and no doubt, GTA VI will be no exception, or at least, we hope.
In GTA V, there was a lot of controversy surrounding the infamous torture scene in the mission ‘By the Book’. The alleged racial stereotyping of European immigrants in GTA IV, or the portrayal of Haitians and Cubans in GTA: Vice City, also caused a big stir at the time.
No matter the series entry, the Grand Theft Auto franchise has always been a reflection of modern society and pop culture, and without those elements, where would this franchise be today? It would certainly have lost most of its identity that made it famous in the first place.
"It's a different world from the one 13 years ago when the last one [GTA V] came out. I mean, it's a very different world than it was even a year ago. What seemed so far-fetched and insane just a short while ago now feels like just another day,” said Jay Klaitz, the actor who played Lester Crest in GTA V, as reported by Popverse.

The GTA Reddit community responds:
“I think it’s going to lean more serious. GTA V got pretty goofy,” replied EmiratesNBACupWinner.
“Honestly, I am really tired of parody and satire, like the world nowadays is so stupid that parody doesn't hit the same level anymore, probably why things like Saturday Night Live and The Boys got kinda uninteresting,” said FaZeSmasH.
“He definitely makes a point. I think that’s why GTA V was so over the top with parody. They want to make fun of everything and everyone, without picking a clear side,” explained Apprehensive_Cow_331. “You don’t want to be biased in making fun of something. If you make fun of one thing, everything is on the table now, ya know? So yeah, they will still satirise everything, it just won’t be so in our faces like it was before.”
Much like a good comedian, Grand Theft Auto makes fun of the period of time in which its current version is set. From political beliefs, social behaviour, cultures, and lifestyle, nothing is off the table. I do also feel that GTA VI will have a more serious tone, but I hope it’s not a toned-down experience due to a fear of offending someone. Only time will tell.
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Its PC port hasn't been announced yet.
