A long-overdue feature from Red Dead Redemption 2 has finally made its way into GTA V’s online offering, it seems.
The latest update for GTA Online is here with ‘A Safehouse in the Hills’, which allows players to acquire stunning and huge new mansions in Los Santos, so that you can lord it over all the peasants beneath you.
Some of the new lavish mansions have fancy pools, gyms, garages, huge offices, and more. Once you have acquired a mansion, you can customise it to give it that personal touch.
Of course, ‘A Safehouse in the Hills’ is not just about acquiring the biggest and most fanciest mansion, because it brings brand new story missions to take on. Oh, and for the first time since the conclusion of GTA V’s single-player campaign, Michael De Santa is back.
GTA Online Has Been Somewhat Of A Testing Pool
For a while, fans have said that GTA Online has been somewhat of a testing pool for new features that may appear in GTA VI. Now it seems the being arrested animation from Red Dead Redemption 2 may have been brought in with the ‘A Safehouse in the Hills’ update.

Being arrested or “busted” in GTA V is nothing new or for the series in general. However, in GTA Online, getting “busted” has mostly been tied to certain mission failures and may not result in you respawning at a police station.
Yet, in a clip shared by the Twitter account ‘GTA 6 Updates’, when a player gets caught by the police in ‘A Safehouse in the Hills’, the animations are very similar to Red Dead Redemption 2.
“They’re for sure using the same process as RDR2. Bounty system and all,” replied 0xBB3.
“I’m gonna owe so much money, I’m never getting arrested.”
Will GTA VI Have A Proper Bounty System?
The bounty system has me especially intrigued. In GTA V and pretty much any single-player offering that came before, it never had a proper bounty system. The closest we got is the wanted system, where police and military will relentlessly hunt you down until you're caught or dead.
In Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as the 2010 game, John and Arthur will build a reputation for the crimes they commit. The more crimes they commit, the more aggressive bounty hunters will track you down, rather than a relentless chase in GTA.
There has been a bounty hunting system of sorts in GTA Online, with players being able to place a bounty on other players within the map. But as for GTA V, no such feature exists.
It would be awesome, alongside the wanted system in the GTA VI single-player campaign, if we could also build our reputation across all of its locations, which would result in our mugs being plastered on wanted posters and its version of social media.
Can you imagine how fun it would be to have a ‘Dog the Bounty Hunter’ parody in GTA VI? That would be a blast.
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. That’s assuming it suffers no further delay.
