Gran Turismo 7 officially has the dubious honour of being Sony Interactive Entertainment's worst-reviewed video game of all time, based on Metacritic user scores.

The recently released racing game, developed by Polyphony Digital for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, received largely positive reviews earlier this month. Unfortunately, a wave of post-launch updates have leaned into an aggressive push towards microtransactions, which did not go unnoticed by players.

Gran Turismo 7 was swiftly review-bombed by angry players who felt cheated, having just paid £60 for a game that was now trying to put forward pricey in-game purchases.

"It’s really unacceptable of Polyphony to make changes to the amount of credits being given for races when they also sell in-game money," one user wrote. "It’s just as scummy that they made the game have to connect online and then the servers are down for most of a day."

"No content. Forces microtransactions. Fixed roulette cards. Race rewards are a joke. Cars are overpriced. Ridiculous tire model. Some graphics in the background are straight from the PS3 (or PS2)," another added.

At the time of writing, Gran Turismo 7 has a user score of just 2.0 on Metacritic, based on over 5,500 reviews. As pointed out by VGC, this means the racing sim has dropped to the very bottom of PlayStation's worst-rated games. The previous record holder was the dreadful World Of Warriors with 2.9. For Gran Turismo 7 to be almost a full point below is a stark reminder that players absolutely will not stand for microtransactions being shoved into full-priced video games.
