With Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West now behind us, I think I can safely say that God of War Ragnarok is officially the most anticipated release of this year. The worrying thing is, we’re severely lacking release news for a game that’s supposed to be out at some point in the next six months.

Our last glimpse at God of War Ragnarok came during Sony’s State of Play showcase nine months ago, leading many to fear that the title may be delayed. Putting our minds at ease, Thor actor Ryan Hurst confirmed just a few days ago that he’d wrapped production on the game and a new rumour has now suggested that we could see a full release reveal this week.

God of War Ragnarok's gameplay looks incredible! Take a look at what has been revealed so far below.

Reputable leaker and entertainment media data analyst Millie Amand has suggested that a release date for God of War Ragnarok could be confirmed at this week’s Summer Games Fest showcase which takes place on 9 June. Organiser Geoff Keighley did tease that the event would focus on previously announced games and God of War Ragnarok certainly falls into that category.

Amand’s tweet tagged Summer Games Fest and contained an axe emoji along with a gif that exclaimed, “We’re overdue for a date.” Any gamer will tell you that the most famous axe-wielding gaming icon is of course Kratos, so if Amand’s suggestion is correct, we should finally find out when we’ll get to wield the Leviathan Axe once again ourselves.

Amand previously talked about Marvel’s Wolverine before the game was officially revealed by Insomniac Games. She also teased that we would see gameplay from Hogwarts Legacy ahead of Sony’s State of Play showcase, so Amand is often a reliable source. The best news is that Summer Games Fest is tomorrow so we really don’t have to wait long at all to see if God of War Ragnarok is finally going to enter contention for Game of the Year.
