If you’re after a new God of War fix on Steam, then look no further than this new RPG that oozes Norse goodness.
There are many iconic PlayStation mascots such as Nathan Drake, Ellie and Joel, Ratchet and Clank, and many more. One other iconic mascot is none other than Kratos of the aforementioned God of War series.
God of War made its debut on the PlayStation 2 in 2005, and from that moment forth, the Santa Monica Studio series became one of the most popular brands in the video game industry, thanks to its high-octane action, stunning visuals and a bloodthirsty story of vengeance.
Over the years, the God of War series has evolved, not only from a gameplay and visual perspective, but also in its location and stories. After Kratos was done with pretty much slaying all the Gods of Olympus, he then tried to live a quiet life in Scandinavia, before the Norse gods had other plans.
The God of War series from 2018 was not only released on PlayStation, but it eventually made its way to the PC platform, Steam. However, while it looks like Sony won't be treating Steam gamers with new first-party titles anytime soon, alternatives must be considered.

One game that might be worth your consideration is The Last Nordic Tribe, developed and published by the indie studio Never Say Never. This new RPG looks like a blend of God of War and Valheim, and it looks quite promising.
“The Last Nordic Tribe is an action survival game with light RPG elements, set in the brutal realities of the early Middle Ages,” reads the synopsis of the game.
“The game’s action takes place shortly after the Great Winter, known as the “Little Ragnarök” (536–539 AD), which nearly wiped out life in Scandinavia and left the world in ruins. This tragic period claimed the lives of 95% of Scandinavia's population, and the memories of these events were preserved centuries later on the Rök Runestone – a warning to future generations.”
Given that The Last Nordic Tribe has only launched today (7 May 2026), it currently has no Steam user reviews, but it will be interesting to see how the game is received by the community in the coming months.
That being said, you can get a taste of the game for yourself right now, because The Last Nordic Tribe has a free playable demo available to download today on Steam.
