The Legend of Zelda and OG God of War fans will feel at home with this new Steam RPG that you can try for free right now.
In some ways, at least when it comes to the top-down entries of The Legend of Zelda series, it might have more in common with God of War than some might think. Each franchise provides a massive sense of adventure, a battle of survival against all the odds and very satisfying combat.
Granted, The Legend of Zelda and God of War have advanced over the years in terms of gameplay, exploration and combat, but they are both franchises that old-school fans will continue to enjoy for generations to come.
The game in question is the action-adventure RPG, Candellum, developed by Out of Seats Studio, and best of all, it’s free-to-play on Steam.
“Candellum is a top-down hack-and-slash where fire is everything. Trapped in a dormant wax factory crawling with hostile candle warriors, you must fight, think, and burn your way to the truth lurking in its darkest depths,” reads the synopsis of the game. “In this world, fire means life. And life means death. You are a candle. A warrior. And you are always on the verge of melting away.”

After watching its gameplay trailer on Steam, the combat of Candellum looks very satisfying, the visuals look nice, and it appears to have challenging boss battles.
At the time of writing, Candellum has 13 Steam user reviews with a “Positive” rating, with nothing but kind words across the board.
“Visuals are nice; game mechanics are quite unique and fit well with the gameworld. At some point, there's a significant difficulty spike, which can take a while to get used to,” wrote Max.
“It is rather short, but a very fun and polished game! It is impressively well done in all aspects: gameplay, visual design, sound design. I would love to play a longer version of this game,” said GingerFreud.
“Warmly recommend giving it a try. Overall polish is great, and combat has some interesting depth that would be interesting to develop further,” explained Avoltance.
As of right now, there is no word of Candellum coming to consoles, so for the time being, at least, it will remain a PC exclusive.
