First released in 2007 as a direct sequel to 2005’s God of War, God of War II continued Kratos’ story throughout ancient Greece as he seeks to enact revenge on none other than Zeus himself.

Despite the God of War reboot taking us to ancient Scandinavia and immersing us in the world of Norse mythology, the original God of War trilogy by Santa Monica took place throughout ancient Greece.

Its second instalment, God of War II, was met with critical acclaim as players stepped back into Kratos’ shoes and hunted down Zeus after the King of Gods stripped the Spartan warrior of his godhood.

As beloved as the original trilogy was, they are now quite outdated and despite the reboot continuing to wow fans, some would love to see an official remake of the early 2000s titles.

Although there is no sign of Santa Monica Studio obliging, one Youtuber has put together a sneak peek of what an official modern-day remake of God of War II could look like and it is safe to say that it has blown fans away.

Created by TeaserPlay, the fan concept trailer shows God of War II made using Unreal Engine 5 and the results are stunning.

We see the new-and-improved Spartan warrior in some iconic ancient Greek locations as he hunts down his prey.

Temples are streaming with light and undead warriors wait in the wings as Kratos makes his way through their halls.

It is just a two-minute video but it has already captured fan’s interest with many taking to the comments to share their thoughts.

“Man, you've officially accomplished what I've been dreaming about for years. I hope there is a remaster of this game,” one user commented.

Another said: “This is the only remake that I actually want! I hope we do get it someday, this game is a masterpiece.”

Hopefully this will inspire Santa Monica Studio to release an official remake one day but for now, at least we have this trailer to keep us feeling hopeful.
