Despite the fact that Hugh Jackman has said multiple times that he's finished playing Wolverine, fans think he might have just teased a long-awaited appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Jackman played the iconic X-Man for an incredible 17 years, starting with 2000's X-Men and ending with 2017's gut-wrenching finale, Logan. After nearly two decades as the adamantium-boned mutant, you can understand why he's been so reluctant to commit to a return.

Take a look at everything Marvel has planned for Phase Four below!

As you're probably aware, the X-Men movie franchise left Fox a few years back and is now officially back under the Marvel/Disney umbrella. Marvel Cinematic Universe overseer Kevin Feige has since confirmed that the X-Men will absolutely be folded into the MCU at some point - we just don't exactly when, or with which actors.

The assumption has been that whenever the X-Men do make it into the MCU, it'll be a complete reboot with new faces taking on the likes of Wolverine, Cyclops, and Rogue. With that said, we know that Ryan Reynold's Deadpool will be making the jump from the Fox universe to the Disney universe... and speculation is rife that Jackman's Wolverine will be joining him.

In a recent Instagram Story shared by Jackman himself, the actor appeared to tease something Wolverine related. The actor first shared a piece of Wolverine fanart from the wonderfully talented Bosslogic, followed by a picture of himself with Kevin Feige. Taken separately neither image would have gotten fans particularly excited, but together? Well, it's definitely reignited the hope that the MCU will reintroduce the Wolverine we already know and love.

I stress that this is far from any kind of confirmation, and in all likelihood just a funny coincidence (or Jackman knowingly messing with us). Still, isn't it great to imagine an older Wolverine leading a new-generation of X-Men alongside The Avengers, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man? The MCU is built on impossible things.
