No gods or kings, only remasters

What can I say about BioShock that hasn't already been said a million times? It is, to put it simply, a masterpiece. In 2007, 2K Boston delivered a masterclass in world design and perfectly paced survival horror that, to this day, is quite rightly held up as one of the greatest video games of all time.

I would also humbly maintain that despite having released well over a decade ago, BioShock is still an astoundingly pretty game. The crumbling underwater ruins of Rapture and its many horrors are a testament to the fact that impeccable art design is key to a game's aesthetic aging like fine wine. But that's not to say it couldn't do with a few nips and tucks to bring it in line with modern releases, right?

That's why I'm delighted to see a properly stunning glimpse at what BioShock might look like if it were released today. As you can see below, BioShock plus Unreal Engine 5 equals an absolute stunning video game.

As much as I'm sure we all want this trailer to be for the real thing, it is unfortunately the work of a talented fan. Still, a shout out must be given to the wonderfully named noodlespagoodle for bringing such an awesome project into the world.

As they explain, this is an upgraded and enhanced version of a fan trailer they made back in 2014 that imagined BioShock running in Unreal Engine 4. If you're interested, you can check that video out here just to see how far the YouTuber's talents have come in the last several years. Spoiler: very.

If 2K Games could go right ahead and hire this incredibly talented individual to help out with work on an official BioShock remake while we wait for BioShock 4, that'd be just peachy.
