Life is Strange: True Colors is pretty good. Believe me when I say it's one of the best games of the year and you should expect to see it appear at all the end-of-year award ceremonies an example of one of the best stories and character performances of 2021. However, although it's a great game (here's a spoiler-free review), the game is being review bombed on Steam due to a certain flag appearing in the game.
As PCGamesN notes, True Colors has had a surge of negative reviews from Chinese players because the Tibetan flag is in the game. The context is that Alex Chen, the protagonist of True Colors arrives in the new town of Haven Springs to live with her older brother. There is one main street in the town which is beautiful and full of life and shops run by compelling characters. One shop on this street is called "Treasures of Tibet" and flies the Tibetan flag, which is banned in mainland China.

There is a political implication that some Chinese players will take from the appearance of the Tibetan flag, but Square Enix and Deck Nine have not made a statement on the flag's appearance yet. It's a piece of set dressing as far as the story goes, it's not even essential to notice that it's there as you explore the town.
Though Life is Strange True Colors has been review bombed, the game is still seen as "Very Positive" on Steam which means it has a good portion of "recommended" user reviews to combat the review bombing. Review bombing has, in the past, affected sales and presentations of games over the years, but here it seems the legacy of the Life is Strange games will protect True Colors from too much harm.
