The rumoured The Mandalorian video game has apparently appeared online with footage of the character in action against stormtroopers.

Back in April, XboxEra founder and industry insider Nick "Shpeshal Ed" Baker revealed that one of Xbox's studios is working on an adaptation of the super successful TV show. Even Cory Barlog, director of God Of War, threw his lot in with the rumours and sent fans into a frenzy after sharing a lot of The Mandalorian gifs ahead of E3 2021. It turned out to be a practical joke, as nothing of the sort was shown off, but it sure sounded like Barlog had a tip-off on the project.

Of course, there's the new Star Wars game coming from Ubisoft to consider, too. "We truly look forward to creating something totally different from what we have done in the past, while upping the bar for the industry," said creative director Julian Gerighty. Personally speaking, I would put money on it being a third-person shooter with light RPG elements and an open-world.

So, this video of The Mandalorian game is very interesting indeed. It begins with a menu screen showing the standard options for "continue," "load chapter," "new game," and "options" in the show's iconic font. Grogu is here too, gazing off into the sunset, probably thinking about eating eggs. Then, once the player loads "Chapter 4: The Escape," Din Djarin appears and he infiltrates an Imperial ship. He makes short work of two stormtroopers with his blaster and then dispatches a few more before using a grappling hook to swoop onto the other side. He's also got his beskar spear and a flamethrower, as well as his jet pack at his disposal.

The qualms that some are having over the supposed footage is that it doesn't look very good. Most video games don't look very "good" until they've reached the final stages of development and it's possible that this is a build of the game that's from an earlier point than it is in right now. Moreover, different games have different art styles. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild doesn't look as realistic as Call Of Duty: Vanguard, absolutely, but that doesn't mean that Breath of the Wild is worse than Vanguard on that merit.

Anyway. Jeff Grubb, the reporter who leaked the existence of the Mass Effect remasters, is confident that this footage isn't the real deal. That's a bit of a letdown, but there's still a chance that Grubb's gotten his wires crossed. We'll let you know when we learn more.
