Stop the presses, Din Djarin, also known as The Mandalorian and Grogu are zooming onto the big screen with a new film.

Simply titled The Mandalorian And Grogu, production will reportedly begin later this year, though no release window has been shared at the time of writing. The good news is it will be directed by Jon Favreau, as well as produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni, all of whom have worked on the Disney+ show.

The Mandalorian has been a hit ever since it first debuted on Disney+

This will mark the pair's first big-screen appearance, though it wasn't entirely unexpected. There's been speculation for a while that Mando would take a more prominent role in the wider Star Wars universe, eventually leading to a Marvel Avengers-esque crossover between some of the biggest heroes in the galaxy far, far away.

The exciting news was shared by the official Star Wars Twitter account, along with a flashy new image of the Mando and Grogu escaping an exploding ship. Of course it also featured the caption “This is the Way," as all Mandalorian-themed posts should.

Speaking about the upcoming film, Jon Favreau said “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created … The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

Kathleen Kennedy followed up with her own statement, saying "Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen,"

Alongside the news also came the announcement that Ahsoka Season 2 is also in the works for Disney+

This does raise the question of whether The Mandalorian will continue with a fourth season of the Disney+ show, or whether it'll stick to films from now on, though only time will tell.

While it's currently unknown when we'll be trotting off to the cinema to watch our favourite bounty hunter and his adopted green child, let's just all appreciate that the pair are getting yet another big break.
