Jak And Daxter Fans Are Once Again Asking For A PlayStation 5 Revival

Return of the Jak

Jak And Daxter fans are once again begging for a PlayStation 5 revival. The vastly underrated Naughty Dog franchise often gets forgotten when stacked up against the likes of Crash Bandicoot, Uncharted, and The Last Of Us, but the PlayStation 2-era platformer more than deserves its spot among the greats.

The epic PlayStation 2 trilogy marked a transition for Naughty Dog. The studio moved away from Crash Bandicoot to create a platforming adventure with a little more scope and cinematic flair. Visually, these games pushed the classic console to its absolute limits. One can only imagine how gorgeous the series would look on PlayStation 5.

For now, all we can do is imagine. It's been 17 years since Jak 3, and we haven't heard a peep from Sony about the prospect of a fourth entry. Naughty Dog has, of course, moved on to create other incredible franchises - but surely some other PlayStation studio could take up the mantle?

That's certainly what fans are hoping for over on the PlayStation subreddit. Tomorrow night Sony will broadcast a State Of Play focusing on a number of 2021 release, plus a handful of unannounced 2022 titles. It's clear that a Jax And Daxter reboot/revival/sequel/anything is one thing folk are desperate to see. Unfortunately, after 17 years of hurt, they also know not to expect to see it.

"Yeah I'm not expecting ND to touch Jak anytime soon," wrote one user. "I was hoping for another studio, most realistically Bluepoint. But the absolute dream studio would be Insomniac but I can't ever see that happening."

"God I'd take a remastered version of the trilogy any day," added another.

Given that 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the series I think it's safe to say that if we don't see anything soon, we probably won't be seeing anything for a long, long while. But hey, Jak And Daxter fans are used to both long waits and disappointment.
