'High-Performance Furniture' For Gaming Is Coming... For Some Reason

When settling down for a marathon gaming session, it's obviously important that you be comfortable. Not only does the right chair help better immerse you in whatever virtual world you're exploring, it also allows you to play for longer and, crucially, make sure you're not absolutely destroying your back by sitting like an idiot.

I know from personal experience that slouching on the sofa to play Uncharted 4 for three hours straight has some pretty dire consequences for the old spine. So gaming chairs... I get them. I absolutely get the need for them, and why everybody wants a slice of that particular pie. But 'high-performance gaming furniture?' What even is that? Has science finally gone too far?

I fear it may well have done. Logitech has just announced a new partnership with furniture folk Herman Miller to create "high-performance furniture for gamers". I'm still not entirely sure what fruits this partnership will yield, but a blog post announcing the team-up promises "ergonomic excellence in gaming". Okay then.

"We've spent more than 100 years perfecting the science of sitting," reads the blog post. "Now we're bringing years of innovation, research and scientific discoveries to the world of gaming. Our design legacy, combined with their innovation in gaming technology, bringing you the world's most advanced gaming chair. The game is about to change."

Herman Miller makes all sorts of furniture, including chairs, tables, desks, cupboards, and the like. I mean, you know what furniture is, don't you? Why am I explaining this? We can assume that a new range of Herman Miller gaming chairs will take centre stage in this new line, but referring to it as "furniture" very much implies that there are some more ambitious pieces planned.

Perhaps it'll be a little like PlayStation's recently announced line of branded furniture. If you missed that particular piece of news, you can now get some rather fetching bits and bobs for your house adorned with PlayStation branding. A lounge table, beanbags, and a media centre are all things I could see Logitech working with Herman Miller on.

I'm not sure how a "high performance" gaming coffee table would ever work, but I must admit I'm excited to find out. If it's anything like the "gaming socks" Puma revealed last year, then we're in for a treat. And by treat, I mean something really stupid.
