'GTA 5' Will Probably Cost £70 On PlayStation 5 And Xbox Series X

We've all had to come to terms with the price hike that's arrived with new games for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but gamers are still asking themselves: what games are worth this new £70/$70 price tag? It's perhaps expected that we'll pay a higher price for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart or the return of Fable, but paying £70 for an eight-year-old game? That might be a surprise. But it seems likely that Grand Theft Auto V is going to cost exactly that with its next-gen release.

GTA V has maintained a huge amount of relevancy over the course the last eight years, since launching for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013. With a great campaign, an engaging online experience, and now even a number of role-playing servers, fans still love delving into Los Santos and Rockstar's world. And the publisher is releasing a next-gen upgraded version of GTA V later this year. That, we knew - but the price, we didn't. But now, people are theorising that it will cost the full amount of a new next-gen title, despite being a game originally released two generations ago.

TweakTown has noted that it's likely a £70/$70 price tag will be attached to the next-gen release of GTA V in part because of Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive. Take-Two were one of the first publishers to broach the $70/£70 price tag with NBA 2K21, and CEO Strauss Zelnick said to TweakTown that the company believed "consumers were ready" for the price hike.

The CEO says that Take-Two doesn't want to overprice games, that they aim to "deliver more value than what we charge", but adds that NBA 2K21 offered "an extraordinary array of experience and lots of replayability" which made the $70 right. If there is any game that has proved it's near-infinitely replayable, it's certainly GTA V.

So, while this is not confirmed yet, it does feel as if £70/$70 will be the RRP for GTA V on next-gen consoles. So prepare your wallets for November 11, 2021, accordingly.
