Bravo six, going dark.

It looks like we might have the final piece of evidence to prove once and for all that Activision and Infinity Ward are planning to release a remaster of 2009's Modern Warfare 2. The latest update for 2019's Modern Warfare went live overnight, and dataminers have found something very interesting indeed hiding in the games files: artwork for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered.

As reported by CharlieIntel, the in-game files display basic artwork and a description for the long-rumoured remaster. Data miners have also found evidence of a new Ghost Oil Rig bundle that features Modern Warfare 2's original Ghost.

The description reads:

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered: Purchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered and receive the Underwater Demo Team Classic Ghost Bundle."

You can also see the artwork for yourself below, or take a look at everything the dataminers found over on Imgur.

All of this lines up with various reports from the last few months. Just recently, Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered appeared on a South Korean ratings board before being taken down. Various leakers familiar with goings-on at Activision also suggested that the 2009 FPS was getting a remaster this year.

However, its discovery in the files of 2019's Modern Warfare suggests that it won't be released as a standalone game, but as DLC for the latest Call Of Duty entry. This tracks with a report from yesterday, which suggested that a number of remastered Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer maps would be added to Modern Warfare 2019 .

According to one alleged insider whose Twitter account has since mysteriously vanished, Infinity Ward is bringing the MW2 maps to the most recent game as part of its continuing efforts not to split the community. With this in mind, it makes perfect sense for Activision to release the campaign remaster as DLC for the 2019 game. After all, who would buy a standalone remaster of Modern Warfare 2 if the maps were only available in an entirely separate game?

Activision and Infinity Ward already revived a number of fan-favourite maps as part of Modern Warfare's first two seasons of content. A handful of popular MW2 maps, including Rust and Shipment, are already in the latest game in remastered form. But the idea of heading back to Terminal and Favela to tear it up like its 2009 all over again? That's exactly the kind of news we need right now.

Oh, and of course there's the prospect of replaying one of Call Of Duty's best campaigns to date... not too shabby. Not too shabby at all. With the game files now all but confirming that this remaster is the real deal, expect Activision to formally announce something soon.
