'Battlefield 6' Could Launch On Xbox Game Pass, Insider Suggests

Rumours abound that a AAA first-person shooter headed for Xbox Game Pass later this year will be none other than the upcoming Battlefield 6.

EA and DICE's in-development shooter is supposedly set for an official reveal in May ahead of its autumn release, but it's been the subject of intense speculation over the last year or so. According to at least one reliable industry insider with a proven track record of Battlefield reporting, the new game will be something of a Modern Warfare-style reboot set in the near future. Unsurprisingly, most reports also suggest it will be the biggest and most ambitious Battlefield title to date.

Speaking on the most recent episode of The XboxEra Podcast, Shpeshal Ed acknowledged that, "there is a third party, Triple-A, first-person shooter that is very highly likely to be launching in Game Pass this fall."

Ed's co-host Jon Clarke added that when one says "triple-A, third party, first-person shooter," there are only really two franchises that come to mind: Call Of Duty and Battlefield. Call Of Duty 2021 - which is rumoured to be another WWII shooter from Sledgehammer Games - is unlikely to launch on Microsoft's subscription service when it releases later this year. As I'm sure you know, Call Of Duty publisher Activision has had an exclusivity deal with PlayStation for years now, and that partnership is unlikely to end anytime soon.

"My other bet would be Battlefield 6 because the EA Play relationship already exists," Clarke explained. "And I'm sure Microsoft are sharing lots and lots of lovely numbers on what it does for a player base when you've got 20 million people immediately available to play your game."

It'd certainly make sense, given the fairly recent inclusion of EA Play and its library of games to Xbox Game Pass. We'll have to wait and see, of course, but there's no doubt a game like Battlefield 6 coming to Game Pass would be another big win for a company that's probably going to make The Elder Scrolls VI an exclusive release.
