'Flights to Wakanda' Google searches spike following Black Panther release

Following the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Marvel fans have been searching for flights to Wakanda.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever marks the end of phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe - and it’s a very poignant end to what has been somewhat of a reset period as The Multiverse Saga finds its footing. Wakanda Forever is, of course, a very different film than what was originally intended following the untimely passing of lead actor Chadwick Boseman in 2020.

Fans and critics alike agree that the film is a fitting tribute to Boseman, with many reduced to tears in the film’s opening credits. Wakanda Forever is garnering plenty of awards buzz too. Many suspect that Angela Bassett could be the first MCU actor to receive a coveted Academy Award nomination. Strangely, the film also has left people searching for flights to Wakanda - which yes, doesn’t exist.

Black Panther is soon set to star in a team-up game with Captain America from the creator of Uncharted. Check out the trailer for the mysterious unnamed project below.

Don’t get me wrong, I think visiting Wakanda would be epic. It certainly looks like an incredible place, but the chance of visiting Wakanda is the same as visiting Asgard, Xandar or Titan - which is to say, these places don’t really exist. Somehow though, over 1,000 people have googled ‘Flights to Wakanda’ in the past month following the release of the film.

The fact was pointed out by Twitter user Luke Cope who included a graph showing the spike in Google searches in November 2022. What’s perhaps more worrying is that people have frequently been searching for flights to Wakanda on and off all year long. My friends, it’s not real, as much as we wish it was.

I’m sure if Wakanda was real though, the tourism board would be thrilled at the response. While some fans will be disappointed to discover that Wakanda is fictional, others have been let down over the censoring of Namor’s penis. This article just gets weirder. There’s no way to put this other than to say that Namor’s bulge has been edited out of the film. Anyone else got any other strange Black Panther related tales to share?
