Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth gets stunning first gameplay trailer

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth gets stunning first gameplay trailer at Summer Game Fest.

Summer Game Fest has finally drawn to a close and what a night it’s been. Geoff Keighley teased that he’d end on a high and he delivered by offering up the stunning first gameplay trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

The night kicked off with the surprise announcement of a brand new Prince of Persia game from Ubisoft - and no, it’s not The Sands of Time. Then, as promised, we got an in-depth look at Mortal Kombat 1’s gruesome gameplay. The upcoming Lies of P was announced to have a demo which, rather excitingly, is available on all major platforms now - plus, and this might just be my favourite announcement, we finally got a release date for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. All in all it’s been a pretty successful night. Oh, and Nic Cage even stopped by. Bizarre, very bizarre. I know, I know. You’re here for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Without further ado, I present to you the trailer.

Take a look at Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s gameplay in action below.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a brand new story in the ongoing remake saga. The synopsis reads as follows: “In this standalone adventure, Cloud Strife and his friends have escaped the dystopian city of Midgar and embark on a new journey across the wide world of Gaia to pursue the vengeful swordsman, Sephiroth.”

Unfortunately, we still don’t have a release date for the game but we do know roughly that it’s due to land on PlayStation 5 in early 2024. It’s been teased that players will be able to explore an ‘expansive world’ that utilises the full graphical fidelity of the PlayStation 5 along with the DualSense’s own unique features. It should be an impressive new entry in the epic Final Fantasy catalogue.

Over on Twitter, creative director Tetsuya Nomura teased that players should stay tuned to the official Final Fantasy account for future updates. That is something we’ll certainly be doing.
