The upcoming remake of a beloved PS2 horror game has just confirmed a release date and it couldn’t be a more perfect time.

2026 is already looking pretty stacked in the first half of the year in terms of video game releases. In February, we’ve got Resident Evil Requiem and Nioh 3. From March, 007 First Light, Saros, and Pokémon Pokopia.

It’s fair enough that GTA 6 got delayed, because it means having more time to get through this stacked first half of the year. Koei Tecmo has announced a release date for its upcoming Fatal Frame 2 Crimson Butterfly Remake, that being 12 March, 2026.

That’s right, it’s coming out two weeks after the release of Resident Evil Requiem. While Fatal Frame doesn’t quite have the same pull as a new Resident Evil, it’ll be great for horror fans to be able to eat two cakes in March next year.

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake is a complete remake of the original 2003 PS2 classic, completely overhauling the graphics and bringing them up to modern standards.

This will provide you with a more haunting experience, as horror games should.

It’s available to pre-order now, either digitally or physically, with a digital deluxe edition featuring the soundtrack and art book, as well as the Digital Deluxe Bonus Set.

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake coming March 2026

The Fatal Frame series, which is titled Project Zero over here in the UK, is a franchise of horror games set in Japan where you control various people who travel to locations haunted by paranormal entities.

You have the Camera Obscura, an object which can capture and contain these spirits to help you finish your investigation.

It’s these features which has given the series a unique identity over the course of its original run.

Five games in the series were released during the series’ original run between 2001 and 2014. Although new Fatal Frame games have not been confirmed, the series has been slowly ported and remastered to modern systems beginning in 2021 with Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water.

If you’re a horror fan, early 2026 is proving to be quite juicy. In addition to Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake and Resident Evil Requiem, there’s also Pathologic 3 and I Hate This Place.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 and Reanimal are also confirmed for Q1 or Q2 2026, but don’t have a confirmed release date yet. As does Crisol: Theater of Idols and Neverway.
