You Have Plenty Of Games To Play Before GTA 6, You'll Be Just Fine

You have one year.

In case you missed the news, Rockstar Games has delayed Grand Theft Auto 6 by another six months, setting the new release date as 19th November, 2026.

Ever since the news broke on Thursday, a lot of GTA fans on the internet have been very normal about it, with reactions ranging from pure Trailer 3 copium to sharing suicide lifelines.

GTA 6 is undoubtedly going to be a massive game when it eventually arrives, and I can totally understand the frustration with having to wait an additional six months for something you’ve waited years for. As a GTA fan myself, I’m definitely in the camp of disappointment.

However, considering the mass hysteria over this delay, you’d think that Rockstar just decided to cancel all the games that will ever release in the next 12 months. I’m here to say that folks, there are plenty of new games coming out in the next year to keep you occupied, you’ll be just fine.

For starters, we’re still around 7 weeks away from the end of 2025 and have a couple of big games releasing. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be coming in about a week, with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond arriving in December. Moving into early 2026, we have Pathologic 3 and Code Vein 2 scheduled for release in January, two sequels to very well-received AA games from a few years ago.

February 2026 is looking pretty stacked, with Resident Evil Requiem, High on Life 2, Yakuza Kiwami 3, Nioh 3, Deus Ex Remastered, and Dragon Quest VII Reimagined all releasing within weeks of each other. If you like a bit of variety to spice up your gaming, these launches alone could potentially keep you occupied for the entire year.

In March, we’re getting Saros, the new game from Returnal studio Housemarque, as well as my most anticipated game of the next year, 007 First Light from Hitman developer IO Interactive.

After March, things get a little quiet in terms of release dates. However, there are loads of great games that have been confirmed for 2026 but don’t have release dates attached to them yet. I’ll name a few just off the top of my head: Marvel’s Wolverine, The Duskbloods, Reanimal, Cairn, Forza Horizon 6, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, Fable, Halo: Campaign Evolved, Star Wars Zero Company, and The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020.

And that’s not even counting all the brilliant games that came out in 2025 that you’ve probably yet to play. Games like Blue Prince, Cronos: The New Dawn, Painkiller, PowerWash Simulator 2, Despelote, or Promise Mascot Agency have been some of my favourite experiences this year, and you owe it to yourself to check them out.

It might even be the right time to go back and play some older games that you’ve been meaning to try. Try playing some classic indie games like Hades, or Celeste, or even Hotline Miami. Sure, they’re not necessarily ‘GTA-like’, but these are games that have been universally loved by a great number of its players. It might be worth at least checking them out.

Even going back to the original Grand Theft Auto: Vice City might be a decent shout, so your memory of it will be fresh when it comes to exploring this new version of Leonidas County in November. Having re-played the original 3D GTA games again last year, I can honestly say they’ve aged quite well, and are still fun to play 20 years later.

My point is, you’re going to have a lot of video games to play until GTA 6 releases. With thousands of games releasing on Steam each year, I’m sure you can pull together a list of around 15-20 games you’d like to check out over the next 12 months. Obviously, your mileage may vary depending on which platforms you own, but it shouldn't be too difficult to narrow down a list of some games you want to check out in the next while.

If you stay focused on that, and try not to focus as much on the wait for November, it’ll feel like GTA 6 will come around in no time.
