Far Cry 4 is still absolutely gorgeous, fans agree

Far Cry fans are in agreement that Far Cry 4's visuals still stand up today, 10 years on.

Far Cry fans are in full agreement that considering it was originally released in 2014, Far Cry 4 still looks stellar as it approaches its 10th anniversary.

What’s next for the Far Cry franchise? That’s a question we’d all like answered. It’s believed that Far Cry 7 has entered development, although that remains unconfirmed by Ubisoft. Maybe this summer’s Ubisoft Forward will hold the secrets we seek. According to so-called insiders, the game could launch next year with the story reportedly focusing on the protagonist trying to track down his kidnapped family after he’s targeted by a conspiracy group. It’s thought the game could introduce a time-limit mechanic, although I’d take all of this with a generous pinch of salt.

In the meantime, fans are revisiting old favourites, with Far Cry 4 garnering praise for its seemingly timeless visuals.

Take a look at our interview with Giancarlo Esposito.

I say ‘timeless’ but all graphics date at some point in time. However, considering Far Cry 4 launched in November of 2014, it’s impressive at just how well it holds up today. Reddit user Roarer34 kicked off the conversation, writing, “Far Cry 4 still looks amazing for [a] 10 year old game,” quickly garnering over 14,000 upvotes.

User freespeech_lmao perfectly captured my in-brain dialogue during the past 30 seconds, commenting, “2004 [to] 2014, night and day difference. 2014 [to] 2024, you’re saying this game is 10 years old? No way.” Borg34572 added, “One of my favourite Far Cry settings. Was just beautiful,” while ianlasco said, “I miss Kyrat like it was a real place.”

Others hailed Far Cry 4 as the best Far Cry game in recent memory. While Far Cry 3 surely takes the all-time top spot, I agree that 4 is ahead of Far Cry 5 and 6 in the overall ranking. Here’s to hoping that the next instalment blows us all away.
