Crossfire: Rainbow has officially been unveiled by SmileGate and Tencent, offering a unique blend of FPS and horror action.

In fact, it’s almost as if the Far Cry and Resident Evil franchises had a baby, based on its initial trailer at least.

The title is in development at Linlangtianshang and is set within the universe of Crossfire which some of you will most definitely be familiar with.

Crossfire is a tactical FPS that originally launched in South Korea in 2007, rolling out worldwide in subsequent years.

There’s a Chinese TV series based on the game, and you may recall it was the focus of a Secret Level episode.

The episode saw a team attempt to escort a man with a briefcase out of an abandoned city whilst being hunted by mercenaries.

Well, Crossfire: Rainbow adds a supernatural flavouring into the mix.

In this game, players will have to fend off terrifying creatures after an unstoppable, shadowy force emerges.

You’ll creep through abandoned houses, forests, and tunnels, with sometimes only a flame torch lighting the way.

Beyond this new trailer, nothing has been unveiled.

There’s no synopsis, Steam listing, you name it, so all we can do is deduce from what’s in front of us.

The graphics of the game certainly look crisp and clean, so it may be sensible to assume that this might be an Unreal Engine 5 title.

And the trailer comprises exclusively of gameplay so it might additionally be worth pointing out that despite a release date having not been announced, we could be looking at a title that’s pretty deep into development.

Fair to say, Crossfire never really took off in the west in the same way it did in China, so perhaps this horror overhaul of the franchise is exactly what’s needed to secure renewed interest.

Although brief, it seems the reveal trailer is already gaining plenty of attention online.

It goes without saying that we’ll be keeping a close eye on future development updates.
