A new Fallout: New Vegas mod has completely changed up the entire game’s atmosphere, making the game a little less eerie.

The Fallout series is popular for its modding potential, with thousands of fan-made expansions and overhauls available to install into your game.

One mod in particular has just been released which overhauls the game’s weather system, adding over 200 new weather effects and improving how the game’s sky and overall atmosphere looks.

The mod, titled Perfect Skies, brings procedurally generated volumetric 4K clouds and a new dual-layer lighting system, with a load of completely unique cloud variations and locational skies. Altogether, it’s about 200 total variations which should make the atmosphere a little more varied.

I mean, as much as we love Fallout: New Vegas, there’s no denying that it has basically one type of environment.

Having a few more alternative weather effects would really help the game’s different locations pop out a bit. It should, in effect, make the game more enjoyable to explore.

The modder, named doodlum, has mentioned how vanilla Fallout: New Vegas sky textures were sampled from real-life photos of clouds. However, this is not the case here. Instead, it’s all computer-generated.

That means that clouds have more volume to them, and will end up looking more realistic as a result.

Overall, doodlum has included 30 unique cloud variations and 60 4K textures, making up almost 1GB of cloud textures. It’s quite a chunky mod for just a few clouds, but those keen on overhauling Fallout: New Vegas’ graphics may find it a good one to pick up.

You can grab the mod now for free by going over to Nexus Mods and installing it from there.

Coming up in Fallout

Fallout: New Vegas is proving to be a popular game in the series to try out at the moment. As the game turns 15 years old, many are going back to the Obsidian classic due to its setting being featured in the upcoming second season of Amazon Studios’ Fallout television adaptation.

It’s currently unknown just how much the TV series will tie-in with the game, however we do know that Mr. House will be featured in some capacity and will be played by The Leftovers actor Justin Theroux.

Fallout: Season 2 will begin airing weekly from 17th December, 2025. The season runs for eight episodes, and stars Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins, and Kyle MacLachlan.
