Earlier this week, on 10 October, we celebrated 25 years of the Fallout franchise. That’s right, for a quarter of a century, players have been hooked on the retro-futuristic post-apocalyptic RPGs, and have seen their playlists littered with bangers from throughout the 1900s as a result.

Of all the fantastic games in the series though, one stands out head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to fan popularity. Earlier this year, the annual Fallout community questionnaire revealed that, you guessed it, Fallout: New Vegas was most participants’ favourite, earning over half of the votes.

While you're here, take a look at some gameplay footage for the huge fan-made Fallout 4 mod, Fallout London, below.

With that in mind, it’s little wonder that people have been hoping for either a sequel or remake for the title for some time now. It’ll be its 13th birthday next week, actually, so it’s fair to say that it's been long enough to warrant it. Unfortunately though, as reported by Dexerto, the original developers, Obsidian, have now shut down any rumours that they might be working on something.

“Happy 25th Anniversary to the original Fallout! A franchise whose roots helped form us and a world we truly love,” they tweeted. “And before anyone asks, our plates are pretty full right now, so no.”

They might not have addressed it directly, but it’s pretty obvious what they’re referring to. Back in February, it was claimed by an insider that Obsidian could be working on New Vegas 2, although it would be “years and years away”. So unless Obsidian is faking us all out, it sadly sounds like this isn’t the case. That said, they did specifically say that they're too busy “right now”, which could imply it’s not being ruled out forever. We can live in hope, anyway.
