So news of Fallout 5 may have not been announced at last night’s The Game Awards 2024 but fans need not worry as we did receive the next best thing.

The Game Awards 2024 was one for the history books thanks to its epic game announcements, celebration of developers and even an acknowledgement to the terrible year of layoffs the industry has faced.

Check out the trailer for The Outer Worlds 2 below!

With a star-studded cast of people taking to the stage, Todd Howard was one of them as he stood alongside Troy Baker and Harrison Ford to celebrate the recent launch of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

Despite his presence, however, he did not offer up any insight into the development of either The Elder Scrolls VI or Fallout 5.

Luckily, Obsidian Entertainment decided to step in.

In a surprise reveal trailer, Obsidian Entertainment, who is the studio behind Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II and Fallout: New Vegas to name a few, made a comeback.

It may not be a new IP and it is technically not a Fallout title but it is similar as The Outer Worlds 2 is set to launch in 2025.

The Outer Worlds was released back in 2019 and takes place in an alternate future in a place called Halcyon, a distant star system currently under the control of mega corporation colonisers.

Receiving generally positive reviews, one aspect that fans loved was its nods to the Fallout franchise and although it may be a while until we get Fallout 4, The Outer Worlds 2 will definitely fill that void.

Its trailer was revealed at The Game Awards 2024 and gave us just over two-minutes of cinematics, as well as a very self-aware narration.

Although the night was dominated with some big game announcements, fans still found the time to get excited about The Outer Worlds 2.

“I’m actually pretty excited about this sequel. The first game felt like it should’ve been longer,” one YouTube comment read.

Another said: “I know some people were disappointed that Outer Worlds wasn't exactly like New Vegas, but I thoroughly enjoyed it enough to play through multiple times with many builds and endings. Excited to hopefully do the same with this one!”

With a whole new colony to explore as well as new factions, enemies and a whole lot of side quests, The Outer Worlds 2 launches next year.
