Fallout 4 just reached its highest player count in 8 years

The Fallout series is having a massive boom

It’s fair to say that the Fallout series has had a bit of a boom lately in large part due to the success of the recent Amazon Studios adaptation.

The success of the Fallout TV series follows in the footsteps of HBO’s The Last of Us being a prime example of how a live-action adaptation of a video game should be done. On Rotten Tomatoes, Fallout was met with high critical acclaim with an impressive score of 94%, at the time of writing this article.

As a result of the success of Amazon’s adaptation, the Fallout video game series has benefited from a boom and in particular, Fallout 4 on PC has achieved its highest player count since it initially launched eight years ago. Just by looking at my friends list on PlayStation and Xbox, there are also a lot of gamers either playing Fallout 4 for the first time or re-visiting it, which is nice to see.

That boom will likely increase later this month when we finally get the long-awaited free new-gen Fallout 4 upgrade on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. As for the current player numbers, according to SteamDB, Fallout 4 sits at number four in the top 10 trending chart.

When Fallout 4 launched in 2016, it achieved a whopping 472,962 concurrent players on Steam. Granted, as reported by ComicBook, the current numbers are yet to reach that height but in recent years the numbers have been hovering around the 25,000 ballpark.

Now, the 24-hour peak sits at an impressive 93,294 concurrent players which isn't bad for a game that was launched eight years ago. As I alluded to earlier, that number will likely increase later this month and it will be interesting to see what Fallout 4 achieves on PC alone.

Furthermore, Fallout 4 isn't the only game in the series benefiting from the recent Amazon Studios adaptation because Fallout 3 - Game of the Year Edition sits at number two in the Steam trending charts, the OG Fallout is number three, Fallout: New Vegas is number five, Fallout 76 has reached 6 and even Fallout Shelter is placed at number 10.

Fallout 4 is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It’s also available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers at no extra cost as well as being included in PS Plus Extra and Premium.
