Fallout 3 Remastered confirmed in official Microsoft documents

Could we be getting a Fallout 3 remaster?

For many fans of Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic series, Fallout 3 is the best that the franchise has to offer, and that’s saying something.

Fallout 3 was originally released in 2008 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and on Metacritic, this instalment has scored as high as 93, not only cementing its place as one of the best in the series, but also one of the best games in Bethesda’s rich back catalogue.

Check out the Fallout 3 trailer below!

Taking place in Washington D.C., following a nuclear apocalypse in the year 2077, Fallout 3 takes place 200 years after the tragic event and the world is very much a different place. If horrific mutations weren't enough to contend with, human Raiders will stop at nothing to ensure your death to rule the wastelands. Fallout 3 is a massive game, not only in terms of its map size, but the different narrative paths that players could take. Would you be a do-gooder or a harvester of evil? That my friend is entirely up to you.

To this very day, fans are still enjoying Fallout 3, especially with the Xbox 360 version as it is backwards compatible with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. This OG version of the game looks extra crisp with its HD visuals and a more stable framerate. Yet, what if there was an even better version of this beloved game to play?

Microsoft’s court battle with the US market regulator, the FTC may be over with, but that hasn't stopped juicy details from the trial from being leaked on the internet, the most recent of which, is possibly the most intriguing.

Leaked documents which found its way on the forum Resetera as well as being shared on Twitter by Wario64 revealed Microsoft’s release schedule for some major Bethesda titles in the coming years. Some of those leaked games included titles that are already released such as Starfield, DOOM Eternal, Deathloop, Redfall and more. However, it’s the yet-to-be-released titles that caught the attention of the masses.

Amongst those titles which Microsoft plans to release under the Bethesda umbrella is the aforementioned Fallout 3, only this time it will be a modern remaster and presumably an enhanced version of the one that is currently backwards compatible on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. It’s also safe to assume that it will come bundled with all previously released DLC.

The Fallout 3 remaster is scheduled to be released during the fiscal year 2024, which could mean that it might launch anytime between now and 30 June 2024. That being said, that release window should be taken with a pinch of salt, considering the fact that the remaster hasn't been officially announced.

Microsoft hasn't responded to the leaked documents as of yet, well, at least officially. The official Xbox Twitter account has seemingly acknowledged the leaks with a humorous meme.

Hopefully, now that the proverbial cat is out of the bag, Microsoft and/or Bethesda might address the leaks in more detail. Until that time, we’ll be keeping our eyes and ears peeled. As they say, watch this space.
