With the announcement and speedy launch of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, fans wondered how much of the original game’s quirks would remain intact.

Bethesda and Virtuous spruced up the game’s visuals and overhauled a few of the gameplay mechanics, but as more people play, they’re discovering some delightful inclusions.

Some of Bethesda's quirks have remained in the Oblivion remaster.

Among all the neat voice acting, and comedic glitches that have remained, fans have been trying to discover if it’s still possible to cheese your stats, or find shortcuts to power levelling your hero.

Some Elder Scrolls players have found that it’s rather simple to level your lockpicking skills up to level 100 in a matter of minutes, making any lock in the game mere child’s play.

It’s pretty simple, and you can try it now.

Prepare yourself to open a locked door by entering the lockpicking screen, then lock in your first tumbler as you would normally.

Before you attempt to lock in the next one, simply start spamming the input to set the tumbler, rapidly moving the tool up and down.

This technique, for some reason, counts as experience in picking the lock and levels the skill rapidly.

Over on Reddit, one player notes, “Just did this. Got to lvl 100 in under 10 mins.”

Whether this is a bug that sticks around is yet to be seen - it could be declared a weird quirk of Bethesda’s programming that stays, allowing players to abuse it if they choose to.

There are many such instances of bugs and glitches remaining with the remaster as fans, over the years, have come to love these odd moments, and appreciate them.

If you’re destined for a life of lockpicking crimes, then you might want to level up this way as soon as possible, just in case it does get patched out of the game.
