While Xbox buries its studios under an avalanche of redundancies, an underrated Elder Scrolls has unfortunately bit the bullet.
Over the past few months, Xbox reclaimed a lot of favour with its audience with a revamped strategy that places good old-fashioned first-party exclusives into the hands of its players.
The company was on track for a generational comeback, but it’s now been sullied by a culling of its studios. Games like Arkane Studios’ Blade are some of the latest to face the chopping block.

Through the noise, you may have heard the dying shriek of an Elder Scrolls game, which has been shut down six years after launch.
Compared to the likes of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls: Blades was a unique entry in the series.
The spin-off mobile game actually serves as a sort of prequel to Skyrim, as the game’s events take place before the Dragonborn’s return.
Core gameplay included exploring dungeons, fighting monsters, and returning to your town before contributing to its expansion.
It wasn’t a gripping, grandiose adventure like the console and PC Elder Scrolls games but it was decent enough before it was infested by microtransactions. That’s always the way with a good mobile game, isn’t it?
Six years after launching, Bethesda has finally killed the free-to-play title for good, with its online servers being taken offline on 30 June. Press F to pay respects.

This was in the pipeline for a while, as the game was pulled from mobile stores quite some time ago, but if you still had it installed, you could continue playing.
Like all live-service games though, it had to come to an end eventually, and now it's finally been shuttered for good.

While Elder Scrolls fans have officially lost their mobile game, Fallout fans are still living the good life. Fallout: Shelter instantly had more appeal and allowed players to create their own Vault-Tec vault. The app is still regularly updated with new characters to welcome into your bunker, such as the cast of the Fallout TV series.
Honestly, if the next Elder Scrolls mobile game takes a page out of Fallout: Shelter’s book, it might be better received
Rather than restrict gameplay to a town, you could expand it to an entire region, basically becoming your own Emperor. You could choose your faction and decide how you’d like to rule. Perhaps you could even face threats ripped straight from the game, like a worrying amount of dragons mysteriously returning from the dead.
We’re just spitballing ideas here, as it’d be nice for Elder Scrolls to have something to do while they wait for The Elder Scrolls VI.
