The Elder Scrolls 6 most optimistic release date is still years off, we're afraid

We’ve already waited long enough

It seems like the highly anticipated release of The Elder Scrolls VI might be further away than some of us may have feared. Like seriously, haven't we been waiting long enough?

It’s almost hard to believe that The Elder Scrolls VI was first announced six years ago during E3 2018. In fact, it’s been so long since that initial announcement, that E3 isn't even a thing anymore.

Luckily (I suppose), from the perspective of Bethesda, The Elder Scrolls VI is still some way off from being in the same category as Duke Nukem Forever, Beyond Good & Evil 2 and Skull & Bones as being the most delayed video games of all time. Still, the upcoming fantasy RPG is headed towards unwanted company, surely?

Recent documents coming from the court battle between Microsoft and the FTC over the Activision Blizzard acquisition (which Microsoft won) suggested that The Elder Scrolls VI could be released in 2026. That being said, considering we’ve seen no gameplay, let alone a release date in the last six years, I’m not optimistic that The Elder Scrolls VI will be released in less than 24 months.

“I think late 2026 is the internal goal for Bethesda to have a complete and fully assembled, yet unpolished TESVI, leaving the release date to be either 2027 or 2028 depending on how much clean up is needed,” suggested Reddit user EvenAH27.

Judging by the general consensus on the Reddit thread, many also believe that 2027 or 2028 is the most likely release date for The Elder Scrolls VI. “I've always believed the release will be 2028,” said Crystlazar. “I don't want to be a graduate before this game comes out. At least there is GTA VI…,” said a cautiously optimistic but yet worried aranlolindir.

“Given its track record, I’m praying Microsoft puts their foot down again and makes Bethesda delay it again, said a sensible Kingblack425. “Imagine the uproar if the game is as buggy as the previous in the series following a game that by comparison to its predecessor, might as well have been bug-free.”

At this point, it might be safe to assume that The Elder Scrolls VI could be a new-gen title and not released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. As always, we’ll keep you posted if we hear of further developments.
