After months of waiting, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco finally revealed the highly anticipated trailer for the Elden Ring expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, and it did not disappoint.

Shadow of the Erdtree was first announced on 28 February 2023 and since that time we had no official update, that was until this week. Yesterday we were treated to a glorious Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree trailer that was as beautiful as it was disturbing. But would you expect anything less of FromSoftware?

Check out the Shadow of the Erdtree trailer below!

One of the main characters of Elden Ring is Malenia, Blade of Miquella. In fact, this demigod is pretty much the face of Elden Ring with her appearing on just about every piece of marketing material for the game. Without giving too much away, she’s also an incredibly skilled fighter that would test even the mightiest of Tarnished.

Now it seems in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, there is a new face of Elden Ring with Messmer the Impaler, and fans are already dubbing this character “Malenia 2.0”. Will Messmer the Impaler torment us in the Lands Between? I think that is pretty much a guarantee. Just a heads up, before we proceed any further, there will be spoilers in the Reddit thread that is the source of today’s story, so please keep that in mind.

“I can already tell this guy's gonna be Melania 2.0. I can’t wait,” exclaimed Redditor DJExton7. “The trailer really went out of its way to hype Messmer up. I bet that fight is disgusting,” replied Shepboyardee12, who is obviously very familiar with developer FromSoftware.

“He's going to punish me and rock my world for about 75 attempts, possibly bringing me to tears,” rejoiced Dubbs09. “Dude has dragon eyes. Second phase he turns into a huge dragon, predicted Responsible-Funny-92. It will be interesting to see how Messmer the Impaler evolves during the intense battle and how many tears he will inevitably bring.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree will be released on 21 June 2024 for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
