Having a new game in the Elden Ring universe is one thing; having it be a co-op adventure is another; but then Fromsoftware step it up and bring back a Dark Souls III boss, too?

Elden Ring: Nightreign was announced last night at The Game Awards, and it’s already causing tongues to wag - and the YouTubers haven’t even dissected it yet - and that’s because a legendary boss is back.

Elden Ring: Nightreign isn't a sequel, but it is set in the same universe.

As part of the gameplay and cinematic trailer for the game, we got to see just a few seconds of a nightmare level boss from Dark Souls III, The Nameless King.

This inclusion sparks a whole host of questions; why is the Nameless King in The Lands Between? Is this even The Lands Between? Will we see more classic FromSoft bosses make a comeback?

The Nameless King is notoriously one of the trickier bosses from the third Dark Souls title.

His arrival in Elden Ring: Nightreign signals that we could be in for a rough ride, with the developer throwing all their difficult bosses at us.

The boss is back with all the trademarks - the sword, the terrifying dragon, and those god-damned lightning bolts.

Of course, Reddit hasn’t any moment of chill for this reveal.

“From is totally f**king with us right now,” said one fan.

“WHY THE F**K IS BRO HERE??!!!” exclaimed another.

There’s a part of me that is very much here for this being a ‘greatest hits’ of FromSoft, with a bunch of old enemies and bosses thrown into the chaos.

“Miyazaki: Yeah throw everything in it” - Is it exactly as this Redditor says?

Though I do dread fighting The Nameless King again, he was the bane of my life for a time.

Now we’re going to be watching the usual YouTube channels for all the lore, speculation, and excitement as we ramp up towards another FromSoft game that will steal all our free time.
