Elden Ring’s hold over the games industry is well and truly back, with yesterday’s Shadow of the Erdtree reveal taking the internet by storm.

It’s finally been confirmed that Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is set to drop on 21 June. Confirmed to be FromSoftware’s biggest expansion to date, fans can expect to face off against 10 new bosses in an area that’s said to be comparable in size to Limgrave. Guided by Miquella, the expansion will take players away from the Lands Between to the Land of Shadows, a completely new world. Don’t worry though, it’s been confirmed that you’ll be able to seamlessly travel between the two. With new weapons, new dungeons, and a new story, there’s so much to be hyped about - but expect to see that reflected in the expansion’s price.

Take a look at the brand new trailer for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree below.

Shadow of the Erdtree will cost $39.99 / £34.99 which makes it the priciest expansion we’ve seen in quite some time. If you think back to Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, that set players back $29.99 / £24.99, while Horizon Forbidden West’s Burning Shores DLC came in at the even cheaper price point of $19.99 / £15.99.

By the sounds of it though, Shadow of the Erdtree justifies its higher price point with its massive size - so it could actually be a positive sign of what’s to come. Obviously, without knowing exactly how long it’ll take to complete the expansion, I can’t say with certainty if it offers value but given that there’s a lack of ruckus about the high price, I’d say that prospective players are pretty happy with what’s being teased.

If you’re looking to splash the cash, you can purchase the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Collector’s Edition for $249.99. It includes a 46cm Messmer the Impaler figure, digital original soundtrack, and 40-page physical art book. Disappointingly though, it only includes a physical voucher code for the expansion - no physical copy, nor the base game. You may be better sticking to the standard expansion, unless you’re after a very pricey figurine.
