AAA Dungeons & Dragons Unreal Engine 5 game is in development

AAA Dungeons & Dragons Unreal Engine 5 game is in development

Invoke Studios (formerly known as Tuque Games) are working on a new D&D video game - it's currently early in development.

It’s a good day for anyone who enjoys throwing down a bunch of die and screaming at their consequences. As reported by Eurogamer, a new Dungeons & Dragons video game is in development from Invoke Studios - Wizard of the Coast’s studio formerly known as Tuque Games (the developers of Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance).

Wizards of the Coast claim that the new title will have the scope of a AAA game, and will be developed in the shiny new Unreal Engine 5. UE5 has the power to create some truly gorgeous games, so hopefully this new title will utilise that to its full extent. For now though, it’s still early in development.

Check out the trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves - releasing March 2023.

There are apparently 80 people currently working on the game, and this is expected to increase to 200 by 2025 (so don’t expect it to release any time before then). Leading the whole thing is Ubisoft veteran Dominic Guay - the senior producer of Watch Dogs and Watch Dogs 2

“We have the largest and most popular brand of fantasy role-playing games in Dungeons & Dragons,” said Guay (via Eurogamer). “Such a brand, with 50 years of history behind it, inspires developers and gives us enormous creative freedom. Our focus is on high-quality triple-A games and we will have the means to achieve our ends.”

Currently, we don’t know the title, release window, or the premise of the game, so we’ll just have to stay tuned for more information there. Fingers crossed that it’ll be received a little better than its predecessor - the PC version of Dark Alliance has a very unimpressive critic score of 53 on Metacritic, and an even worse user score of 3.3. However, it’s way too early to tell if this new one will follow in its footsteps.
