Developer confirms 5 Lord of the Rings games to be released by 2024

The Embracer Group have reported that they'll release 5 Lord of the Rings games between now and March 2024.

There’s a real appetite for a major Lord of the Rings gaming release right now. I mean, isn’t there always? It’s good news though because there are plenty of Lord of the Rings games in the pipeline.

It’s difficult to avoid so I’m sure you’re aware that Hogwarts Legacy is undoubtedly the most popular game on the planet right now. Since its release, fans have said that they’d love to see Lord of the Rings get the same kind of detailed open-world treatment. We know that Private Division and Weta Workshop are working on a new Middle-earth set game so we could actually see a project expansive enough to rival Hogwarts Legacy in the next few years. That’s not all though, The Embracer Group have unveiled that they’ll release five Lord of the Rings games between now and March 2024.

One of those titles is Gollum. Take a look at the latest trailer below.

As reported by Eurogamer, The Embracer Group confirmed that five Lord of the Rings games are in production in their latest financial report. It doesn’t detail exactly what the individual games are but we can assume that Gollum is one of them. It’s possible that the aforementioned Private Division title could also be included although I’d be surprised if that title was released by March 2024 given how early it is in development.

The Embracer Group acquired game rights for both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit franchises last year. In the report, they wrote that this had “generated a lot of interest among both internal and external partners for the Lord of the Rings IP, across different media formats.” I bet.

Let’s not forget that it’s highly unlikely that these five games will all be AAA releases. In fact, it’s possible that this number could include one or more mobile games. Still, it’s exciting to see Lord of the Rings projects in the works.
