Dark Souls 3 gets incredible Unreal Engine 5 remake

Dark Souls 3 gets incredible Unreal Engine 5 remake

A beautiful Dark Souls experience

You can always expect modders to push the boundaries when it comes to older games and overhauling their graphics. With the advent of Unreal Engine 5, it seems there are remakes and remasters of several games popping up every day.

One YouTuber and modder, 'Jonx0r' has been steadily working on a remaster of Dark Souls 3 and they have recently shared a video showcasing 11 different maps, covering the entire city of Irithyll. While these videos always leave us pining for an official remaster that might never happen, it at least gives us an idea of what one would look like.

Dark Souls fans are always begging for a remaster

The demo, because right now that's all this is, allows the character to move through the worlds and explore the areas that have been spruced up. Sadly, you can't actually play this anywhere - it's being used more as a portfolio and an example of what the game could look like if FromSoftware decided to remaster the game themselves.

The tech demo uses Unreal Engine 5 Nanite and Lumen to create better textures and new-gen lighting. It's beautiful to watch and really shows what Unreal Engine 5 is capable of. Particularly the lighting which really blooms outwards from the torch in the character's hand, casting shadows that actually feel darkly spooky.

It feels like an age since Dark Souls 3 came out. Personally it was my favourite out of the three because it was the first I played. So, I have a soft spot for some of the locations shown in the demo.

If you're a Dark Souls fan, you should definitely take some time to sit and watch the video, it might even give you a new perspective on the third game, or make you want to play this iconic game all over again.
