It may be the black sheep of the Dark Souls family, but Dark Souls 2 still has legions of fans begging for a remaster of the awkward middle child.
While the first game has had somewhat of a remastered treatment, the second game has been left languishing, with only modders on-hand to bring Dark Souls 2 into a more glorious light.
By combining a few mods, one player, who explained their recent playthrough over on Reddit, revolutionises the game making it look like a new release.
Redditor, leo_of_daat, explains that they’re using a few mods to breathe new life into the game.

Using just three mods - Beta version of DS2LightingEngine SotFS, Scholar of the Second Sin Visual Mod, and Bearer of the Curse Edition - they’ve managed to show off a truly spectacular version of the game running on PC.
Of course, this is maybe a far cry to what Fromsoftware could create, but seeing as there’s no movement on a remaster, this will have to do.
Other fans are wowed by how good it looks, with one noting, “Majula looks even more crazy.”
One fan queried, “That looks fantastic… is it performance-heavy compared to the base game?” and OP replied saying it didn’t push their 3070ti too hard.

This is brilliant news for players who might have older hardware, and of course, these mods can be tweaked to suit your preferences and the technology you have to hand.
Dark Souls 2 has often been maligned as the weakest of the trilogy, but it’s still a great game and it has loyal fans.
This fan is eager to something like this for consoles, saying, “Jesus! Would love a remaster/remake for PS5.”
Perhaps one day we’ll see a revisit to this entry in the series from the masters of the genre.
