Well, this is certainly a project to keep an eye on. Ex Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 devs have united under a new studio, announcing a brand new dark fantasy RPG as their first project.

In case you missed it, several former CD Projekt RED devs established a brand new studio back in February 2022 called Rebel Wolves, announcing soon after that they’d immediately begin work on an RPG. The RPG part came as a surprise to no one given that CD Projekt RED is one of the leading powerhouses when it comes to the genre. Those devs are clearly going to play to their strengths. Previously, a leak suggested the game’s title to be DAWNWALKER: ORIGINS but it’s now finally been unveiled that the upcoming dark fantasy will simply go by Dawnwalker.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is the latest release from CDPR. Take a look at the trailer below.

As reported by Game Informer, Dawnwalker has officially been described as a “story-driven dark fantasy role-playing adventure,” with many of the team billing it as their dream project. More information on the game is due out later this year (Summer Game Fest or The Game Awards?) but for now, we know that Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz is on board as creative director. Tomaszkiewicz has an enviable career with prominent developmental roles on Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The Rebel Wolves team were hesitant to dive into any specifics about the game but a piece of promotional concept art does show a mysterious sword-wielding protagonist, floating in a dense red fog with several runic symbols seemingly above their head. As to what this all means, we’re as clueless as you.

In a press release, Tomaszkiewicz said, “We want to craft a world that you will want to explore and dive deep into and tell stories that make you care about the characters,” adding that, “We aim to deliver an experience that will allow for a variety of choices and room for experimentation when replayed. Helping craft this experience with so many talented people will be my mission at Rebel Wolves, and I can't wait for everyone to see what the team has been up to for quite a while now.” We can’t wait to see more.
