Nothing wrong with a little murder, for science

We’ve all asked silly little questions while playing games. What happens if I do this particular thing, have the developers thought about the outcome?

Well, one Cyberpunk 2077 player wondered what would happen if you spent time killing 2077 NPCs in Night City, and documented it on YouTube.

Cyberpunk 2077 is in a much better place than it was upon launch

The video itself is quite old now, having been uploaded in 2021, when Cyberpunk 2077 was still “a buggy mess.”

This means the outcome could be very different nowadays, after countless updates have brought the game to the point of brilliance.

So, what happened after 2077 NPCs died?

Well, for a start, the YouTuber, Trip Tease, considered the challenge would take around two hours to complete, meaning they’d kill 17 NPCs per minute - quite the spree.

However, there was a problem, they couldn’t actually kill 2077 NPCs. With the game in such a state upon release, NPCs were vanishing, some weren’t dying at all, and at other points in the video, the streets were empty of passersby.

So, the video concept kind of fizzled out. Essentially, they ended up killing 77 NPCs before changing the challenge to killing another 20, which means they killed 20+77 NPCs.

I know. Disappointing.

Now I really want to know what would happen if you killed that many people (our lawyer says I have to confirm that we mean, in the game).

I highly doubt that CD Projekt Red actually implemented something in game for when you kill that many NPCs, but it would be a nice little easter egg.

The trick would be to see if you could stay alive long enough to kill that many NPCs, because otherwise you can keep respawning in and attacking everyone.

So, Trip Tease, if you ever read this, please try again, with the game in the improved place it is, and let us know what happens.
