The Call Of Duty franchise is all over the place nowadays. With each new release, the game hops and skips from past wars to present day conflicts, and futuristic apocalypses with varying degrees of success. The most recent entry, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 completely bombed, with many fans calling it a joke and stating it’s an overpriced DLC rather than a standalone release.

In a welcome surprise though, fans have been treated to a glimpse of what could have been a new Call Of Duty game from a few years ago, reportedly titled Call Of Duty: Future Warfare.

Footage of the game’s first mission was shared on Twitter, and takes players through a firefight on the moon, not the kind of environment you want to be hit by a stray bullet in, though I suppose you’d never want that anyway.

Either way, the gameplay looks pretty decent, and it’s believed the project was in development as a sequel to Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare, one of the most controversial titles to date that broke records for the most disliked trailer on YouTube.

Fans were pleasantly surprised, and then disappointed that this project will unfortunately never see the light of day. One said it looked “really cool,” and that it’s “too bad it was cancelled”.

Another was surprised by how detailed the footage is, saying it’s “wild” that a game seemingly so far into its development was scrapped. Finally, one fan said it best by saying, “Look at what was taken from us.”

Looking ahead, a new Call Of Duty game is due to be released later this year, though what the game will be called or be like is a mystery at the time of writing. Usually, Call Of Duty games are revealed during the summer and released at the end of the year, so we have a few months to wait before we see what Activision is cooking up for us.
