The battle of the FPS titans continues and this time the ball is in Call of Duty’s court with a brand-new free download arriving today.
The ongoing war between Call of Duty and Battlefield is in full swing in the latter half of 2025 with both Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 releasing within just a month of each other.
With Battlefield 6 launching on 10 October and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 bringing up the rear on 14 November, there is not much time left until the numbers show if EA or Activision is in the lead.
However, until then, it seems as though the latter is not yet done with 2024’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 with a brand-new download being released today.

Once again, Activision is allowing fans to grab Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 at no extra cost courtesy of a free trial which runs from 28 October to 4 November.
This is not the first free trial for the 2024 FPS but once again, this round comes with some convenient timing as Battlefield 6 is set to launch both its Season One and REDSEC.
Also launching today is the first season of Battlefield 6 alongside its now-confirmed battle royale mode which is known as Battlefield REDSEC.
Both its seasonal content and access to its battle royale mode will be free for all players but it seems as though the Battlefield 6 update will also need to compete with this Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 free trial.

A Bunch of Free Content
The Black Ops 6 free trial comes with access to all that the full game offers, including 40+ multiplayer maps including new additions Gravity and Mothball as well as 10+ multiplayer modes, six Zombie maps, and access to its Halloween event known as The Haunting.
The Haunting itself comes with a new map titled Rig, a new map variant, Slasher Deathmatch, and Haunted Havoc with the latter starring our favourite zombie hordes.

The information on the free-trial was shared over on CharlieIntel’s Twitter account and players were quick to share their thoughts.
“They can give the game away for free and we still won't play it,” one user offered.
Another agreed, saying, “Free week for people to realise how dogs**t it is so they'll play REDSEC instead. Masterful play by Treyarch.”
With both the Black Ops 6 free trial and Battlefield 6 Season 1 and REDSEC going live today, which will you choose?
