Battlefield 6 has been one of the most successful multiplayer games of the year, and a serious contender for Call of Duty’s titles as the top first-person shooter.

Adding to the game’s success a new, free mode is being added, though it may cause a few arguments.

That’s right Battlefield 6’s new battle royale mode is called REDSEC, meaning Redacted Sector, and is free-to-play whether you have the game or not.

Like Call Of Duty: Warzone 100 players will jump into the battlefield competing for points and survival but there’s a slight catch.

At its core Battlefield is a team-based series and as such you can’t dive into REDSEC alone like you would in other battle royale games. You must play the game in either a duo or a squad, either people your friends with or those you matchmake with online. Personally I don’t mind this but I know it’ll rub some people the wrong way.

If one of your teammates dies they can be revived either by getting them back up yourself or giving them a chance to redeploy later.

Looting And Shooting

Battlefield 6’s take on a battle royale also sounds slightly more unforgiving than that of Call Of Duty’s, as apparently the kill ring won’t damage you over time, it’ll just straight-up kill upon coming into contact with it.

The rest of the game is pretty straightforward though with players choosing their class, and sticking with their class till the end of the game, and finding a variety of weapons, gadgets and vehicles scattered across the map, all of different rarities.

Some mid-match missions can be undertaken for some nice rewards as well as an opportunity to bring back a teammate if one has perished.

Reception to the new mode from Battlefield fans has been mixed, with some praising its inclusion and others berating it for following in the footsteps of Call Of Duty with Warzone.

The important thing to remember though is this is a free-to-play mode. You don’t need to own a copy of Battlefield 6 to play it nor will you need to be subscribed to services like Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus to play online.

It’s a completely standalone mode and not something you need to play if you prefer the base game’s multiplayer.

Battlefield 6’s REDSEC mode is out today, 28 October, and is worth trying out if you haven’t secured yourself a copy of the game yet.
