In case you missed it, the past few days have been big ones for film fans. CinemaCon started on Monday in Vegas and finally concluded yesterday, and it’s been basically non-stop film announcements (see The Batman 2 and Avatar: The Way of Water) and trailers.

One such trailer was for Black Adam, the upcoming DC Films entry which is set to throw Dwayne Johnson into the superhero universe, cast as the titular character. Although this new trailer hasn’t been released online yet, it’s been described in full, and sounds pretty interesting. As ComicBook reports, after an explosive action scene, Hawkman approaches the new hero and says: “There are heroes and villains. Heroes don't kill people.” To this, Black Adam simply responds: “Well I do.”

Take a peek at our first look of Black Adam right here.

This line has left a few fans confused though, as there are plenty of superheroes who’ve killed people before, like Batman and Wonder Woman. However, The Rock himself has directly responded to one Twitter user who believed that the line “doesn’t make any sense”, promising that in context, it will.

“Once you watch Black Adam you’ll understand the context of the line,” Johnson tweeted. “It makes sense. The mythology of Teth/Black Adam. Ruthless with zero regard.”

This lines up with descriptions of the character that the actor has given us before: “Superheroes live by a code of ethics and a line of integrity. But with Black Adam, depending on how you look at him, he has the ability to be a hero, an antihero, and a villain,” he previously said (as reported by ComicBook). “One of the things that drew me to Black Adam is his origin. He started out enslaved. Any time you have a character, or any human being, who has wrongfully been held down by others, it means so much more when they begin to rise up. Black Adam rises with a big f**king chip on his shoulder-and an edge.

“In the traditional DC Universe, as we all know, if you do something wrong Superman and Batman are gonna try and bring you to justice. If you do something wrong to Black Adam, you're going to die. It's that simple. I believe this character is going to bring a unique edge to the superhero genre. We're gonna be turning preconceived notions on their ear.”

Black Adam is set to release in cinemas on 21 October.
