Beyond Good and Evil 2 faces yet another major setback. Seriously, will this game ever get a break, let alone be released?

It’s quite difficult to fathom that Beyond Good and Evil 2 was originally announced way back in 2008. Yes, the sequel to the 2003 cult classic was announced about 15 years ago. Following seemingly endless delays and being lost in developmental hell, Beyond Good and Evil 2 claimed the unwanted crown from Duke Nukem: Forever to become the most delayed AAA game ever. However, it seems that Ubisoft’s other title, Skull and Bones is now coming for that crown.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 was last teased at 2017's E3. Take a look at the trailer below.

Sadly for Ubisoft’s much-troubled action RPG, it has suffered yet another major setback. As reported by Kotaku, developer Ubisoft Montpellier is undergoing a leadership shakeup and as a result, Ubisoft staff were allegedly informed that their managing director, Guillaume Carmona, is no longer with the studio.

In fact, it’s reported that he has not been with Ubisoft Montpellier since the beginning of 2023. What’s more, it seems no explanation has been given for Carmona’s departure, which is strange considering he has been with the company for nearly 20 years.

Furthermore, the Kotaku report mentions that Ubisoft Montpellier is facing a labour investigation from its local government due to the number of developers suffering burnout and taking sick leave due to a toxic workplace. A Ubisoft spokesperson told Kotaku that “the Montpellier development team is undergoing well-being assessments through a third party for preventative measures and to evaluate where additional support may be needed.”

Sadly, the troubles don't end there for Ubisoft Montpellier. Sources have also informed Kotaku that the developers are struggling to achieve a fun and achievable creative vision for Beyond Good and Evil 2. Don't get us wrong, we’d love to see Beyond Good and Evil 2 finally be released one day. However, we can't help but think that the day might not ever come. This is despite reports in 2022 that the sequel is still happening.
