The best Elden Ring mods are ones which add new challenges by changing up the gameplay or adding new content.
These mods can introduce new enemies, revamp old weapons, or change up how certain mechanics work to give even the most veteran of players a new challenge to work towards.
Whether you’re someone who’s just beaten their first ending, or an expert with hundreds of hours in the game, these mods are sure to spice up your next playthrough.
We’ve picked out seven of the best Elden Ring mods which you’d be better off starting with when it comes to tweaking your next playthrough, including where you can grab them from. Let’s dive into the list.

Elden Ring Reforged is the place to start, changing up pretty much every facet of the game, with new enemies, weapons, spells, and equipment available for you to use, as well as less powerful items receiving a rebalance to make them useful during combat.
ERR also features some new mechanics to improve levelling, including a new system which brings new permanent and temporary buffs to give you a bit more of an edge while fighting a boss.
Still, with these new buffs, don’t expect the game to become a cakewalk. Alongside the new content, enemies and bosses have also seen some love, ensuring that your new toys won’t make you a powerful demigod.

Randomiser mods prove to be incredibly popular across a wide variety of PC games, and these kinds of mods in FromSoftware games are nothing new.
As it says on the tin, the mod changes up gameplay by randomising everything you could think of: bosses, enemies, and items, including key items and shops.
Now you’ll effectively be caught by surprise when General Radahn jumps you at Caria Manor, or when you enter Malenia’s lair only to find a simple serpent snail blocking your path. And yes, this also means your starting equipment is completely different.

Another randomiser, where this time interacting with a fog gate will warp you to a completely different fog gate. This mod was a popular one with Dark Souls, and has now become a favourite amongst randomiser fans for Elden Ring.
While Elden Ring’s fog gates were a little more spread out and less common, the mod activates all fog gates for all boss areas and multiplayer arenas, ensuring that most areas are only accessible to you by finding the correct gate combination. It also affects warps like coffins, trap chests, and evergaols.

This mod changes the way runes behave in Elden Ring by granting or deducting them based on your actions.
For example, you’ll earn runes for damaging enemies, killing them while at low health, or picking up new items. On the other hand, you’ll lose runes by taking damage or dying. It’s a new risk/reward system which works very well with Elden Ring’s action gameplay.

Another rune-based mod which may tickle your fancy is Rune Health, a mod which changes how much health you have based on the number of runes currently on your person.
You’ll start with only one health point when you have zero runes, and then gain a new health point for every 100 runes you collect. So, for example, having a rune count of 71,700 would give you a total number of 718 health points, when you also factor in the base free health point you get.

Since Sony and FromSoftware don’t seem to be interested in making a Bloodborne remake or sequel, modders have brought the game into Elden Ring via Graceborne, a Bloodborne-inspired overhaul which changes the gameplay to be more like the PS4 exclusive.
The idea behind Graceborne is to “shift Elden Ring's aesthetic into a darker, more sinister experience.”
The mod features trick weapons and firearms, the main form of combat in Bloodborne, and also has new gameplay additions like gun parrying, no equip load, quicksteps when locked on, perma-night, and Bloodborne-style healing.

Adds an arena where you can fight any boss in Elden Ring, regardless of what level you are or if you’ve previously defeated them. You can also level up for free to reach a level you’re comfortable fighting them at.
For those who really love solo-ing Malenia, or want a bit of practice taking on some of the other late-game bosses, this is the mod for you.
