Bella Ramsey has started playing The Last Of Us

Bella Ramsey who plays Ellie in The Last of Us TV series from HBO has finally started to play the Naughty Dog game.

During an interview with USA Today last year, Bella Ramsey revealed that they were encouraged not to play The Last of Us video game in preparation for the TV series. “After my first audition, they asked me, ‘Have you played it?’ And I said, ‘Nope,’ and they said, ‘Keep it that way’,” Ramsey said.

To be fair, it kind of makes sense. Sure, if Ramsey was already a fan, they would already know about the character and would certainly have plenty to work with. On the flip side, if Ramsey knew nothing about the Ellie character, they would go in with a totally fresh perspective.

As it happens, despite not playing The Last of Us from Naughty Dog, it’s fair to say that Ramsey nailed it playing Ellie. However, as reported by NME, now that filming for season one has long concluded, Ramsey told Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast that they started playing The Last of Us, soon after the debut of the first HBO episode.

“I actually started playing it two weeks ago,” Ramsey admitted. “I had watched some of the gameplay, even before they asked me not to play it. Before the audition and stuff, I watched some of the gameplay, so I was aware of it and familiar with it but I’d never sat down and been Joel and Ellie.”

Ramsey continued: “I’ve not got to the bit where Ellie comes in. It’s actually not as weird as I thought it would be. I just need to get on with it. I get in a room, I look at all the details and I’m just wandering around. Then I end up getting lost. I just need to go forward and get to the point.”

It will be interesting to know how far Bella Ramsey is now into the story of The Last of Us. We would also assume that they might hold off from playing Part II until season two of the HBO series begins filming. I just hope that when that time comes, Ramsey is prepared for when they play The Last of Us: Part II.

In related news, sales of The Last of Us: Part II have increased, as season one of the HBO series comes to an end. Speaking of which, the final episode ‘Look for the Light’ concluded the debut season with a near-perfect score.
