Nowadays, Call of Duty is the most popular military first-person shooter on the planet but it once had a fierce rival and that rival was none other than Battlefield.

Published by Electronic Arts and developed by DICE, the Battlefield series has been around for as long as the Call of Duty series from 2002 with its first ever game being Battlefield 1942. Since that time, we’ve seen a lot of sequels in the series, some better than others with the last entry being Battlefield 2042 released in 2021 for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

Check out the Battlefield 3 ‘Reality Mod’ trailer below!

Unfortunately, when Battlefield 2042 launched it was plagued with a plethora of issues such as missing features and uninspired maps, quickly putting off a legion of fans who were hyped for the next entry from developer DICE. For some, the best that the series has to offer is 2011’s Battlefield 3, which garnered scores as high as 89 on the aggregate website Metacritic, further validating the common conception of this classic military shooter.

From what I hear, Battlefield 2042 is in a much better state today but for many, the damage is already done. Whether EA and DICE can return the series to its former glory with the next Battlefield game, remains to be seen. In the meantime, players can return to the classic Battlefield 3 made even better courtesy of this fanmade remaster that we’ve always wanted and you can download it for free via bf3reality.com.

The fanmade remaster is a mod created by the team at ‘BF3: Reality Mod’ that brings the visuals of Battlefield 3 in line with the modern era and then some. The mod not only improves the visuals, but also the user interface, adds new vehicles, improves weapon customisation and recoil, new multiplayer maps, and much more.

Unfortunately, this mod is only available for the PC version of Battlefield 3. For the rest of us, Battlefield 3 is playable on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, it’s also backwards compatible with modern Xbox consoles and its multiplayer modes are still going strong today.
